A Chorus Line: Spotlight on Charmaine Chan

Happy New Year everyone!! Continuing on with our A Chorus Line series… next up, we have Charmaine Chan!
Moving A Chorus Linefrom the rehearsal room to the studio was…
Incredible. I absolutely love moving into the theatre because it’s amazing to finally get to see the set and the stage that we’ve all been waiting for. We spend months preparing for a show inside a studio, but it’s never the same when you’re put on a stage. A rehearsal studio is great because you get to see yourself and closely interact with the cast, but when you get on stage with the lights, the makeup, and the props, it’s a totally different environment. There are definitely things to tweak when we get into the theatre (such as spacing) but the process of combining the set and the performers is a great part of the performing process.
I learned…
How to manage my time and “get organized” because of experiences like these. YAF helps set you up for the real world and teaches you to be responsible. You need to be able to stay on top of your rehearsal and your responsibilities because the final product is such a professional show. Everyone needs to pull their weight and contribute and I think by doing so, you learn to be responsible, work with others, and be creative.

I am going to miss…
I will definitely miss the cast and the “ACL family” because we’ve grown so close to each other over the pass few months. Creating a performance is not only about the lines and the music, but it’s about forming a connection with the other people that you’re performing with. It’s about the stage presence and relationships on stage, which means we’re all really close backstage as well. We’ve all worked incredibly hard to make A Chorus Line a success and I’m definitely going to miss being able to work with such amazing people.
I laugh when I think back to…
Bobby Yeung!! It was hilarious the first time (and all the times after) when the talented performer, Edwin, explored Bobby Yeung’s “strange” personality.
Tell us something we don’t know!
Some of the performers’ history were the same or similar to their character’s history!
At the Ballet
Challenges?
Not eating chocolate! For the longest time we had to try and stay off chocolate, fried food, and anything that could possibly give us a sore throat or make us sick.
What’s next?
I’m gonna settle down over Christmas, get some coursework done and start training for my drama school callback! Lots of dance, singing and acting practice!
My dream superpower is…
Probably telekinesis, being able to move things or controls things by simply thinking about it. It would be pretty cool to be able to move whatever is around or even a mile away, right?
If I could meet an artist for a day, it would be…
Like many other girls in the world, I’d love to meet Lea Salonga. I remember watching her perform Cinderella and she was absolutely stunning. She is such a great performer and I’d love to learn about how she got where she is.
